We’re thrilled to announce a creative collaboration that’s been in the works behind the scenes, an exclusive art print collection in partnership with our friends at Middle of Nowhere!
The Life Interiors x Middle of Nowhere collection is a considered range that draws on warm, earthy tones and subtle Mediterranean influences to create artworks that exude a sense of laid-back elegance. Vibrant and elevated, each piece has been thoughtfully designed to complement one another, offering the versatility to curate a cohesive art wall or make a statement on its own.
To celebrate the launch, we sat down with our Creative Director, Nicole Arvela, and the Design Team at Middle of Nowhere, to explore the vision behind the collaboration, the creative process, and their personal highlights from the collection.
What inspired this collaboration between Life Interiors and Middle of Nowhere, and how did the idea for a joint art range first come about?
Nicole: We’ve been working with Middle of Nowhere for years and absolutely love their brand, so this collaboration has been something we’ve wanted to do for a long time. Artwork is something we’re really passionate about at Life, and we wanted to create something special and unique just for our customers. It’s been amazing bringing this vision to Life together!
MON: The collaboration was a natural progression of a long-standing relationship. For years, we've admired Life Interiors' effortless exploration of trends and textures across their product ranges, and it's always a pleasure to see how our Middle of Nowhere mirrors, art, and accessories are featured in their showrooms, imagery, and online store. So, when the opportunity came up to collaborate together on a standalone art collection we jumped at the chance to create a diverse collection that would also work within the wider Life Interiors product range.
The collection has a very distinct aesthetic. What themes were you aiming to convey through the artworks?
Nicole: We wanted the collection to have a fun, cool and expressive vibe, so we were able to blend different styles in a really unique way. We provided direction on colour palettes, design ideas and types of elements we envisioned, and ended up with our dream result. Our collection nods to Mediterranean elements, abstract figures, nature and foodie vibes!
MON: The collection’s aesthetic is a result of our collaborative design process. We're a small team of designers and creatives, and by approaching every collection as a collective, we're able to explore a wide range of ideas and infuse them into our artworks. What we particularly love about this range is the potential for customers to play with it. There are so many opportunities for these pieces to be shown as mismatched pairs or in small groupings, allowing the individual designs to really speak to each other and create a unique story.
When creating this range, who did you imagine it would appeal to, or what kind of space did you picture it living in?
Nicole: Art is such a personal thing, and our goal for this collection was to resonate with our Life community. We designed these artworks to be versatile, suitable for any space within a home. Here at Life we love a gallery wall! What we love about this collection is that each artwork comes in lots of different size options, so you can either have a large statement piece by itself or style a few together. As part of our recent shoot, we have a few pairings that we loved together, particularly the Foodie styles, which work beautifully in a kitchen or dining space.
MON: We try not to be too prescriptive with who our designs appeal to… we know art can be a very personal thing! Our only real intention is that our products bring joy to the spaces they inhabit, no matter where they end up. The collection is made to order locally by our team of printers and framers in Melbourne, which allows us to offer our designs in many size options. We hope this makes the collection really accessible, providing options ranging from big showstoppers to petite accents to make it easier than ever to find the perfect piece (or pieces!) for any space.
What is your favourite piece from the collection and why?
Nicole: Oh my gosh can we pick them all?! A few of my favourites are: Girls Best Friend, Charging Bull and Dinner Date.
MON: Our team has a few favourites, but the current frontrunners are Vivid Petals, Wine Pairing and Charging Bull.
