3 Tips To Maximise Your Spring Cleaning

3 Tips To Maximise Your Spring Cleaning

The beginning of Spring is the perfect time to reset your home after the colder months, and tackle those bigger cleaning tasks that make a noticeable difference.

Focusing on a few key areas can help create a more welcoming and vibrant atmosphere as you prepare for the warmer weather and busier days ahead.

To get you started, we’ve come up with three essential tips to maximise your spring cleaning to be both efficient and refreshing!

Spring Cleaning - Clean Your Sofa

Refresh Your Sofa

As the sofa is often the centrepiece of a living space, it endures a lot of daily wear and tear. It accumulates dust, pet hair, food crumbs, and stains that can dull its appearance over time.

Start by removing all cushions and giving the entire sofa a thorough vacuuming to remove loose dirt and dust. For fabric sofas, do not use soaps or detergents as they can cause colours to bleed. Consider using our Fabric Protection Spray to spot-clean any stubborn stains, or hiring a professional upholstery cleaning service for a deep cleanse. For leather sofas, use a suitable leather cleaner and conditioner to remove dirt and restore shine. Lastly, be sure that all cushions are flipped, rotated, and fluffed to ensure even wear and increase longevity.

Treat Your Timber Furniture

To keep your timber pieces looking as beautiful as the day you got them, a little TLC and proper care goes a long way. Dusting regularly is essential, but spring is the ideal time for a more intensive treatment.

Wipe down the surfaces with a soft damp cloth to remove grime, and consider using a PH-neutral detergent for any stubborn areas of build up. Do not use acid cleaning products or bleach-based products because they could affect the waterproofing and create irremediable stains.

After cleaning, use a wood polish or oil suited for the type of timber to nourish the wood and protect it from drying out or cracking. This not only preserves the furniture's appearance but also prepares it to withstand the increased use during the busier months ahead.

Spring Cleaning - Clean your rugs and timber furniture

Restore Your Rugs

Rugs are often in high-traffic zones of the home that collect dirt, dust, allergens, and even odours over time. Different rug materials require different care and cleaning, but for general maintenance, we recommend vacuuming your rug regularly with either a motorised or a rotating head, depending on the weaving techniques.

For liquid spills, place a paper towel over the spill and apply pressure to draw up the liquid. If necessary, slightly moisten with a solution of material-appropriate, mild detergent and then remove all traces of the detergent by diluting the area with minimal water. You can cover it with a colourfast cloth and weigh down the area for a few hours. Never saturate or vigorously rub the stain.

For solid soiling, remove the solids with a spoon, knife or brush taking care not to brush too harshly. Moisten the affected area with a diluted material-appropriate mild detergent and soak up the liquid with a colourfast cloth as outlined above.

Double offers an incredible range of machine-washable rugs with stain-resistant, pet-friendly and highly durable designs, designed to provide every home with style and practicality when dealing with the everyday mishaps and messes of life.

Embrace the season with these simple steps, and set a refreshed tone for the months ahead!
