Introducing The Long Stay, a creative collaboration between Life x Jono Fleming. Jono is an interior designer, stylist and author whose career has evolved across residential design, magazine editorial and publishing.
Inspired by the places you never want to leave, the collection brings a sense of quiet luxury to the bedroom, made to be lived with and loved for years to come.
To celebrate the launch, we sat down with Jono to explore the vision behind the collaboration, the creative process, and his personal highlights from the collection.
What sparked the collaboration between you and Life Interiors?
I’ve worked with the team from Life Interiors for almost a decade and have always loved that they make really considered design feel accessible. We started talking about what a collection together could look like, and pretty quickly realised we shared a similar approach. I’m always drawn to pieces that have personality, but that you can actually live with, so it felt like a really natural place to start.
What excited me most was the opportunity to create something that felt distinctly like my world, but could still slip easily into lots of different homes.
The Long Stay is inspired by places you never want to leave. Is there a particular hotel, destination or travel memory that inspired that feeling for you?
For me it’s less about one particular hotel and more about that feeling you get when you’re travelling and you walk into a space and immediately start thinking, could I just live here?
I’ve felt it a lot travelling through places like Mexico and Morocco, where interiors are so layered and full of character. There might be beautiful timber, something handmade, an unexpected colour, a slightly strange little detail, and somehow it all works together.
I love hotels and homes that reveal themselves slowly. You notice something new every time you look around. That was really the feeling behind The Long Stay, creating pieces you want to spend time with rather than things that are just there to fill a room.
What did the creative process behind The Long Stay look like?
It was really collaborative. I came into it with a strong sense of the mood and the world I wanted the collection to live in, then we worked closely with the Life Interiors team to translate that into actual pieces.
A lot of it was about proportion, materiality and those small details that change how something feels. We went back and forth on shapes, finishes, fabrics and colours, refining things until they had enough personality without becoming too specific or difficult to use.
I didn’t want it to feel like a collection where everything had to be bought together. Each piece needed to be strong enough to stand on its own and work with things people already own.
When designing this range, who did you imagine it would appeal to, and what do you want people to feel when they see it?
I actually tried not to design for one particular person. I was thinking more about people who want their homes to feel collected rather than decorated.
You might love design, travel, colour and beautiful objects, but you don’t necessarily want your house to look like it has been lifted straight from a showroom. There should be some looseness to it.
I want people to see the collection and feel like there’s something familiar about it, but also something a little unexpected. Hopefully it gives them permission to mix things up, bring in some personality and create a home that feels like their own.
Is there a particular piece from the collection that you’re especially drawn to, and why?
It’s very hard to choose because they all play different roles, but the Nightcap Wide Bedside Table is probably the piece I’m most drawn to.
I love the width of it and the double doors. It gives it a really generous presence beside the bed, rather than feeling like a small piece of furniture that’s just been tucked in there. There are also all these little details that came through the collaboration with Life Interiors, like the beautiful finger pulls, which make it feel really resolved.
My favourite detail is probably the little brutalist-style legs. They were inspired by a set of vintage dining chairs I have at home, so there’s something quite personal about seeing that detail translated into a completely new piece. I love when furniture has those small references and stories built into it, even if you’d never necessarily know where they came from just by looking at it.
