In 2006, brothers Geoff and Basil Karam started Life Interiors from very humble beginnings, with a drive to provide designer furniture at an affordable price, for everyone and every space.
Now, with the help of our amazing team, we have grown to include our e-commerce store and 3 showrooms across Australia.
To celebrate our 17th birthday here at Life, we sat down with our founders to get to know a little bit more about them.
Q. Favourite Life piece?
Basil: The Lando Leather Bar Stool. I love the leather and the solid timber, it's such a classic piece!
Geoff: It's too hard to pick just one! They're like my children so I can't choose, but some standouts would be the Noir, Allocco, Capri, and Cosmos.
Q. How long have you been in business together?
Basil & Geoff: 17 years.
Q. What was your first job?
Basil: Working at Stanmore Mcdonalds.
Geoff: Working with Dad mowing lawns on the weekends.
Q. What do you do at Life?
Basil: All things digital, and strategy as a whole.
Geoff: I wear lots of hats here, but my key focus is product and product development. I also work within supplier relationships and growing our categories across the business.
Q. What's your favourite thing about being in business together?
Basil: Well he's my little brother haha! It's good to work with family.
Geoff: Probably going through the challenges together. Obviously businesses have highs and lows, and just having someone there when things get tough just makes it all easier.
Q. What's on the horizon for life?
Basil: Continuing to make great design accessible to Australians. So that means introducing new product, opening up new showrooms, improving the website.
Geoff: BIG things!
Q. What’s one piece of advice for starting your own business?
Basil: Just get started! Start with a rough draft, it's never going to be perfect, but just take that leap.
Geoff: Back yourself, and surround yourself with amazing humans.
